About the SEQ Community Alliance

Who we are

The Southeast Queensland Community Alliance (SEQCA) is a not-for-profit umbrella organisation formed by community, planning and environmental advocacy groups across southeast Queensland (SEQ).

Our Vision

Our Vision for SEQ is:

Development conserves, respects and responds to SEQ’s enviable climate and its rich and diverse natural heritage for the benefit of current and future generations.

AND

Our cultural and built heritage, including our public assets, are recognised as key contributors to liveability and place-making and are valued accordingly when development occurs.

Consistent with this Vision, our goals are for development that:

  • Fast tracks to sustainability: Water wise and carbon negative (climate positive).
  • Pursues resilience: Lifting the benchmarks and not compounding the problems.
  • Defends our greenspace: Safeguarding our existing greenspace and adding to the stock.
  • Secures what we value locally: Ensuring the character and liveability of our communities are not overwhelmed by bland, profit driven development.

We also advocate for governance that:

  • Embraces participation and transparency: We seek more transparent forms of governance and meaningful participation to help realise our goals.

Our activities

To advance our Vision and goals, our activities include:

  • Advocating to governments for policy and law reform in areas of interest
  • Making submissions on policies and laws proposed by governments at all levels
  • Helping the community to learn about issues affecting the future of SEQ through:
    • publishing articles and newsletters; and
    • holding community forums

SEQCA wants to work with all levels of Government to further a constructive and consultative process to advance our Vision for SEQ communities in planning and development decision-making across the region.
